Upper Chichester – Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) has received a grant through the Veterans Trust Fund to provide mortgage assistance to Veteran households in Delaware County.  CAADC was able to start providing assistance through this new program as of July 1st.  CAADC already provides rental assistance and other services to prevent homelessness among Veterans through its Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program.  However, this funding cannot be used for mortgage assistance.  Using the Veterans Trust Fund grant to establish the Mortgage Assistance for DelCo Veterans Fund, CAADC now has a resource available to help Veterans that are in danger of losing the homes that they own.  Veterans needing assistance can call Community Action Agency at (610) 874-8451.

As this funding is limited, this project targets assisting Veteran households that are just beginning to have mortgage payment issues.  CAADC looks to “catch” them before they fall into a full blown potential foreclosure status.  The Fund assists Veteran households that are having problems paying a current mortgage or just a month or two behind.  This may be due to temporarily being out of work, due to a one-time medical issue, due to an unexpected necessary expense, etc.

The Veterans Trust Fund (VTF) is funded by generous Pennsylvanians who voluntarily make a $3 donation when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID, or motor vehicle registration.  The VTF also receives proceeds that come from the sale of Honoring Our Veterans license plates and private donations.  CAADC’s grant was 1 of 29 that were awarded this year to Pennsylvania organizations.  The VTF is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
